Urogenital prolapse remains a longterm bothersome condition which has a major impact on HRQoL. Whilst many women will derive considerable benefit with conservative measures, surgical management remains integral in the care of many.

Over the last 25 years the surgical management of urogenital prolapse has become increasingly controversial with the introduction of new surgical techniques and the use of prosthetic material.

In this IUGA lecture we shall review where we are now, how we got there, and also look towards the future in terms of current developments and future directions.
