State of the Art Lecture from Società Italiana di Urodinamica (SIUD), Affiliate Society of ICS.

Throughout this presentation, we will attempt to achieve several objectives: we will start by discussing the pathophysiology and epidemiology of BPS, setting the role of the microbiome in bladder homeostasis and how this has been recalibrated in recent years. We will then review the scientific literature associating microbial dysbiosis with the pathogenesis of BPS. Finally, we will outline new therapeutic strategies on the basis of modulation of the microbiome, some of which are already undergoing clinical trials.
